Example of Accepted Bulky Items:

12 garbage bags (32-gallon size) of garbage, recyclables, or compost (loose items must be bagged, boxed, or bundled). This is equivalent to 2 cubic yards (3ft x 3ft x 6ft) of materials and must be under 60 lbs.
- 1 large appliance (washing machine, clothes dryer, household refrigerator)
- 1 bulky item (mattress and box spring, furniture, 4 tires without rims)
- 1 e-waste item (computer monitor, microwave, television)
We cannot accept the following items:

- Liquids
- Sludge
- Dirt
- Rock
- Hot ashes
- Concrete
- Asphalt
- Hazardous waste
- Infectious waste
- Construction debris (new material)
- Demolition debris (old material)
- Materials exceeding five feet in length
- Items weighing more than 200 pounds (may require an extra fee for service and cannot be guaranteed)
- Treated wood – any wood that has been pressure treated with a chemical preservative to protect the wood against attacks from insects, microorganisms, or fungi. It is typically used in outdoor applications such as fences, decks, stairways, etc. Read more on the disposal of Treated Wood Waste.

RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMERS
Residential customers receive two curbside Bulky Item Collection (BIC) appointments per calendar year at no additional charge, on your regular collection day. Appointments can be scheduled from February 1 through December 31 each year. BICs cannot be carried over from year to year. If you exceed your number of free pickups, you may request additional collections for a fee. If you are a tenant in a multi-family building, please contact your property manager to schedule a pickup.

Children’s Fund of San Mateo County
The Children’s Fund benefits children and teens being served by the County of San Mateo’s Human Services Agency, probation, and mental health departments, as well as any children living in poverty throughout San Mateo County. -
FreeCycle
A grassroots and non-profit organization of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own communities. -

Buy or donate items and help homeless animals. All proceeds benefit the Peninsula Humane Society. -
