It has always been my belief that art and creativity is a transformative process. Transformation of feeling into idea, idea into form, recycled materials into new form has been an essential idea in my creative expression. The object is a metaphor and the material, glass, acts as metaphor.
Glass is abundant in its ambiguities. It can be fragile yet durable, shattered or whole, dangerous or protective. Glass’s transparency allows us to see beneath the surface. What is beneath the surface is what is real to me. It is where I find the strongest connection to my intuition and an inquiry into the nature of the world and our relationship to it. Beyond what we see is an energy system that motivates and defines who we are. It is a system that connects us to our spirit and allows us to form relationships with all beings and things. I am interested in trying to communicate the relationship of humanity to nature and the cosmos.
I am also interested in the individual mythologies that govern our lives. How are we able to significantly transform ourselves to become closer to who we really are, closer to our spirit. It is not an easy process. Life is painful and our ability to adapt is difficult, yet the only constant in our lives is change. It is all a matter of process, a poetic statement of our desire to share the vitality of the experience.
My work is inspired by nature and poetry. Though mostly abstract, I incorporate realistic elements as well. Our sense of what is real is never holistic, it is often fragmented. I try to bring my feelings and ideas together into a more cohesive relationship, to answer some of the questions that I will never stop asking because I find the world fascinating.
