It is illegal to put items such as electronics, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, pesticides, and other chemicals in any of your bins. These are items are not recyclable, compostable, nor allowed in our landfills.
There are many items that are considered household hazardous waste. Look for precautionary statements on product labels such as poison, danger, warning and caution to assist you in determining if an item is household hazardous waste. When disposed of improperly, these wastes can do serious damage to the health of humans, wildlife and the environment.

Sharps
Sharps or needles that are improperly disposed of in the trash or recycling can pose a health hazard to our garbage collectors and our environment. Please properly dispose of sharps using a biohazard container.
Collection Programs:
Place home-generated sharps waste in biohazard containers. Biohazard containers are available for purchase at local pharmacies and some office supply stores. Contact your health care provider, local pharmacies, hospitals or clinics to ask if they offer a collection program. Sharps in approved biohazard containers can be brought to the Recology Vacaville Solano Recycling center on Saturdays from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
Mail-Back Service:
Visit California Integrated Waste Board for a list of companies that are authorized to provide sharps waste mail-back services in California.
Used Oil Collection
Used motor oils and filters are accepted at the Recology Dixon Recycling Facility (cash back for used motor oil dropped off at this state-certified collection center) and the Recology Vacaville Solano Recycling.
For the most current listings of Dixon used oil recycling centers, or for listings of used oil recycling centers in other California communities, please visit the California Integrated Waste Management Board.
