Originally from Iowa, Dawn Stetzel lived in North Carolina for 11 years, and has a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, College of Visual and Performing Arts. Among her artist residencies she received an invitational residency in China and was awarded a two-month residency in Brazil. After a residency at the Sitka Center of Art and Ecology on the central Oregon coast she began a journey of exploring various ways of connecting to place.
Living at the mouth of the Salmon River at the base of Cascade Head in Oregon for six years, Dawn embraced living in a place of tides and tsunamis where in her words, “land is not always land, sometimes it is water.” She has followed tides and tsunamis to the Long Beach Peninsula after a month-long Artist-In- Residence at The Sou’wester in Seaview, WA.
Dawn is currently taking work to the Portland Biennial Salon and making pieces for her solo show at The Arts Center in Corvallis, Oregon.
Residency: July 2016 - September 2016
